Sláinte Score

A score you can understand.

The Sláinte Score turns product information into a simple score from 0 to 100.

The purpose is straightforward: make it easier to understand a product at a glance, then give you enough context to decide whether you want to look closer.

What does a Sláinte Score mean?

The score is a summary of the product information Sláinte evaluates.

Higher scores indicate a stronger overall nutritional profile according to Sláinte's methodology. Lower scores indicate more characteristics that reduce the score.

The score is not a universal definition of good or bad food.

A product can be useful for one person and unsuitable for another.

Score ranges

75 to 100

Excellent

A strong overall profile according to the Sláinte methodology.

50 to 74

Good

A generally favourable profile, with some characteristics worth understanding.

25 to 49

Poor

A weak profile. Several characteristics pull the score down.

0 to 24

Bad

A poor profile according to the Sláinte methodology.

Why does Sláinte use a score?

Nutrition information can be difficult to compare quickly.

A score gives you an immediate signal. The important part is what comes next.

Sláinte explains the score so you can understand the product rather than simply accepting a number.

The score should always have context

Sláinte does not want to create another black box health rating.

The score is therefore presented alongside the factors that influence it, for example:

Protein: High. Sugar: Low. Ingredients: Simple.

Those signals help explain the number.

A score is a starting point

Think of the Sláinte Score as a shortcut into the information on the label.

It is not a substitute for professional advice, individual nutritional requirements or common sense.

Scan something. See the score. Understand why.
